National Cleanup Day: A Call to Action for District 126
As Elite Mrs. Earth and a write-in candidate for Texas House of Representatives District 126, I am passionate about creating a cleaner, healthier environment for our communities.
National Cleanup Day is the perfect reminder of the importance of keeping our surroundings clean and free of litter. But for me, every day is cleanup day, especially in areas of our district that need it most. In the past three years, I have organized 41 community cleanups, with 17 focused specifically on the 249 and 1960 underpass—an area that has unfortunately become home to many homeless individuals. While some residents may not have the resources to maintain cleanliness, others struggle with mental health issues that prevent them from prioritizing a tidy environment. As a result, these areas of our roadways often become hazardous, filled with litter, and a danger to the community.
WHY CLEANUPS MATTER
1. Improving Health and Safety-Littered areas aren’t just eyesores—they pose serious health risks. Debris can block drains, leading to flooding, and discarded items can attract pests and rodents. Cleanups help remove these hazards, ensuring a safer, healthier environment for everyone.
2. Boosting Community Pride-When our communities are clean, we take pride in them. Residents feel more connected to their neighborhoods, and businesses are more likely to invest in areas that are well-maintained. Clean spaces encourage foot traffic, boost local economies, and foster a sense of unity.
3. Protecting Our Natural Environment-Trash, especially plastic, can end up in our waterways, harming wildlife and polluting our ecosystems. By organizing regular cleanups, we can reduce the amount of waste that ends up in our streams, rivers, and oceans, protecting the environment for future generations.
4. Providing Hope and Resources for the Homeless-While cleanups address the immediate need for a cleaner environment, they also shed light on the broader issue of homelessness in our district. We must work together to provide better resources for our homeless population—offering access to housing, mental health services, and opportunities to contribute to the community. Clean spaces encourage foot traffic, boost local economies, and foster a sense of unity.
Join Me in the Fight for a Cleaner Future
